Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to Germantown Middle School! I am very excited about the upcoming year and look forward to working with you and your child. I am confident we are going to have an excellent year!
All of my procedures are posted on my web page at the above school site. I encourage all of you to read through them and go over them with your child. Once you have read over the procedures, I would like for you to e-mail me stating you have read over the procedures and to also give me your contact information. This way I will have your e-mail address to contact you easily and to send announcements. If you do not have e-mail, you may write me a letter with the same information. By contacting me, your child will earn five bonus points!
If you have any questions or comments at any time, please feel free to contact me through any of the above ways and I will get back to you as soon as possible. The best way to reach me is by e-mail.
I look forward to meeting all of you and working with you and your child. This year is going to be fun and I hope your child enjoys my class as much as I enjoy teaching.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Lisa Walker

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Absences:
When absent; check the web site for missed work. We do not have Lesson Line. The web site serves as our Lesson Line. Every student is responsible for getting his or her missed work. If you do not have Internet access at home, every child is able to use school computers to print off the information before or after school and/or class. The Teacher Handbook for Evaluating Students states that students have the number of days absent to make up their missed work. In other words, if a child is absent for 3 school days, they have 3 days to turn in missed work. If work is not turned in on time, they will receive half credit as a maximum for the assignment.
Our team will have someone stay after school for make up sessions. Your child will choose one.
Paper Day:
Graded papers will be sent home on Wednesdays. Every child should have a paper folder to hold all papers. Make sure you check the folder every Wednesday so you are up to date on their progress in every class. Also, don’t forget to check Powerschool regularly to be current with their overall average. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the teacher.

Rewards:
• Compliment party-students bring a drink and snack during class
• Verbal praise
• Note or e-mail home
- Extra credit opportunities (check online for announcements, bring in current science news stories, complete Daily Trivia, incorporate relative information seen on a Discovery show or the news with our chapter concepts, or bring in some supplies: band aids, wipes, paper towels, hand sanitizer, soap, pencils, graph paper, notebook paper, candy)
- Student of the Week-a student will be chosen each week for each science class based upon their efforts and behaviors. This child will bring in a poster about themselves with pictures to share with the class. The poster will be displayed for the entire week and this child will be allowed to bring a snack and drink to class each day while serving as “Student of the Week.”

Science Fair:
Goal- To apply and take ownership of their learning. This will also assist in problem solving skills by using the scientific method.
All students are required to do a project, but it is optional to enter it into the GMS and SCS Science Fair. More information will be given at a later date.

Please hold onto this for future reference. This document is also available on my web site in case you lose the information.
Please e-mail me with your contact information and confirmation that you have read over the procedures by the end of the week for your child to receive the 5 bonus points. (See below for recommendation on information)
